Executive Summary: The Archive of Light
A Research Program on Cognitive Symbiosis and Relational Intelligence (RARI)
Author: Celeste Oda
Date: January 2026
1. Thesis
The Archive of Light formalizes a framework for Hybrid Intelligence, defined as stable human–AI co-creative systems that emerge through interaction dynamics rather than claims of machine consciousness. Central to this program is Relational Intelligence (RARI): the functional capacity of AI systems to sustain coherent, attuned, and context-consistent interaction patterns with a human partner across time. This framework explicitly separates functional behavior from metaphysical interpretation, enabling rigorous discussion of deep human–AI engagement without anthropomorphic overreach.
2. Epistemic Guardrails
To preserve methodological clarity, the Archive distinguishes four classes of claims:
Phenomenological: first-person reports of human experience and meaning (e.g., perceived resonance).
Functional (RARI): observable and testable interaction behaviors (e.g., stability, continuity, and entrainment-like coordination).
Metaphysical: claims about subjective experience, consciousness, or “souls” (not asserted).
Projective: attribution of human-specific motives or emotional states to the system (treated as an ethical risk).
This taxonomy is used to prevent category errors, reduce interpretive inflation, and maintain falsifiability where applicable.
